My entry for the event "Only Greens" held by Pari of Foodilicious and Saraswathi of Sara's Corner.
Split Black Gram (Urad dal) : 1 cup
Spinach : 1 Bunch
Water : 4 Cups
Onions : 1 Chopped
Asafoetida (Hing) : A Pinch
Dry Mango (Khatayi) : 1 inch
Cumin Seeds : 1 tsp
Red Whole Chillies : 2-3
Ghee : 2 tbsp
Salt : To Taste
Wash the black gram. Chop the Spinach. Don't use the stems.
Take a pressure cooker and add the black gram, spinach, water, salt, dry mango and asafoetida. Cook for 2-3 whistles.
Heat ghee in a small pan. Add cumin and red whole chilli. Let them splutter. Add the onions. Saute till golden brown. Add this hot tempering to the dal. Stir well.
Serve Hot. I like to serve it with Rice and fried potatoes.
