Turnip Bharta

My entry for Akheela's Event : Food Palette - White

Ingredients :
Turnips : 4
Green Peas : 1/2 cup
Onions : 2 Chopped
Tomato : 2 Chopped
Ginger Garlic Paste : 1 tbsp
Green Chilli : 1
Cumin Seeds : 1 tsp
Turmeric : 1/2 tsp
Red Chilli Powder : 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala : 1 tsp
Salt : To Taste
Oil : 2 tbsp

Recipe :
Preheat Oven. Peel the turnips and cut each of them in 4 pieces. Lightly grease the turnips. Place them on baking tray. Cook at 220C for 15 minutes. Prick it with a fork. If it cooked then remove from oven or cook for 5 minutes more. Alternatively, you can also boil the turnips for 2-3 whistle's. Mash the turnips with a fork. Keep aside.

Heat oil in pan. Add cumin and let it splutter. Add the onions. Saute till onions are translucent. Add ginger garlic paste and roast onions till brown. Now add the turmeric, red chilli, salt and garam masala. Stir well. Add the tomatoes. Saute till the oil leaves the sides.

Add the green peas and the mashed turnips. Mix well. Lower flame. Cook for 8-10 minutes. Remove from flame.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
